The Whitsunday Writers Festival, at the Whitsunday Marine Club, is a hotbed of inspiration and ideas.

Now in its sixth year, the festival is for lovers of words, books, reading and writing and is due to take place from Friday, September 18, to Sunday, September 20, 2015.

This year’s theme is ‘adventure’ with two young, spirited adventurers booked to speak – Jessica Watson, the youngest person to sail solo and unassisted around the world, and Ryan Campbell, the youngest pilot and first teenager to circumnavigate the world solo in a single-engine aircraft. Both have written books about their experiences.

They will be joined on the podium by renowned author Blanche D’Alpuget who has won awards for her work, which includes the two-part biography of her husband, former Prime Minister Bob Hawke, and a series of historical novels.

There will also be inspiring workshops about self-publishing, poetry writing, thrillers and children’s stories, as well as photographic and art exhibitions.

“It is a relaxed and friendly festival with direct access to the speakers and plenty of opportunities to get involved and share ideas,” said festival communications director Deborah Friend.

“It is also a very sociable festival with a full social calendar including welcome drinks on Friday, a Literary Dinner on Saturday night and a Long Table Lunch on Sunday to close the festival.”

‘Early Bird’ tickets are available until August 1, 2015. For details and tickets visit www.whitsundaywritersfestival.com
